Pulp Fiction by Insane 51
Insane 51 developed a painting where the protagonist is the iconic character of Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, a movie by the renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. The well-known actor John Travolta played the character, a familiar face from other Hollywood movies. In this artwork, the artist employs photorealism and overlay techniques. The representation of movement creates an illusion of an unfocused image, similar to seeing two images simultaneously.
This composition reflects the story present in the film, where in the middle of a lot of chaotic situations, the main characters, composed of Vicent and Mia Wallace (this last one played by Uma Thurman), have a dance with each other, a truly legendary moment in Pop culture. The fact that the painting appears blurry meets this idea. In the upright corner, the artist tags his name, which stands out from other tags due to its shape and color, with “Insane” crossing an ample 51 in blue.
About the artist:
Insane 51 (whose real name is Stathis Tsavalias) is a Greek mural artist, especially known for his “Double Exposure 3D” technique.” Born in 1992, his journey as an artist started with graffiti in 2007, and later, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, along with studies about graphic and applied arts. His work is centered mainly on photorealism and overlaying, mixing images to reproduce movement or tridimensionality (this one done with his double exposure 3D technique).
Although he can still use both styles, in the last few years, Insane 51 has been working more towards the 3D style, combining two images in red and cyan to create a captivating three-dimensional illusion. Viewers can experience the effect using 3D glasses, digital color filters, or characteristic glass installations in front of some of his murals. With this technique, the viewer can see three different images (one in red, another in blue, and the three-dimensional one with both tones that merge the previous ones). In other productions, as Pulp Fiction, Insane 51 overlaying aims to transmit action and motion, often having a tremulous effect.
Drawing inspiration from everyday life and nature, Insane 51 travels globally to bring excitement to urban spaces through his vibrant murals. In addition to his street art, he has developed various “moving” digital designs, showcasing his innovative spirit.
